Our take: a 1 GB plan covers the typical trip. If you'll stream, video call every day or share your connection, go for 5 GB: that's what the top quarter used.
From our own support chats. Most setup problems come down to one of these.
Signal but no internet
Usually data roaming is off for the travel eSIM. Turn on Data Roaming for that line only, and pick it as your mobile data line.
Installed it, then deleted it
A deleted eSIM can't be scanned again, so never delete it to reset it. If it's gone, write to us and we'll help you from your account.
The QR code won't scan
Usually the phone is carrier-locked or not eSIM-ready. Check your phone before you fly, or install by entering the code by hand.
Data ran out faster than expected
Photo backups and video autoplay are the usual cause. Turn them off on mobile data, or top up in the app in seconds.
How we measured
Every figure comes from eSIMs bought on Zwitchy and used abroad. We never see what you did online, only how much data your eSIM used.
Who counts: paid eSIMs for one country that used data. Free eSIMs, refunds, our own test eSIMs, business eSIMs and 100 MB plans are left out.
Typical: the median, so a few heavy users don't skew it. The middle half runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile.
Per day: data used divided by the days the eSIM was in use, from its first connection to its last network signal, up to the plan's length.
Online same day: the share of eSIMs whose first connection came within 24 hours of buying.
Privacy: we publish only totals, never figures about a single traveler.
Freshness: recalculated on the 1st of every month. Trips still under way are included.
