Bought the wrong plan? An unused, never-activated eSIM can be refunded in full within 30 days of purchase. See our refund policy for the full terms.
Fixed data plans give you a set amount of data, for example 1 GB or 5 GB, to use at full speed for the whole plan period. When it runs out, you top up or buy again. Pick this if you know roughly how much you'll use.
Unlimited plans have no total data cap for the plan period, but each day includes a high-speed allowance. Once you use that day's allowance, you carry on at a reduced speed. Reduced-speed data has a daily limit too, and if you reach it, data pauses until the allowance resets 24 hours after you activate the eSIM. Pick this for heavier or less predictable use. A fair-use policy applies.
Pay As You Go is not a plan at all. You add credit once and it comes off by the megabyte at the local rate as you use it, so you never pay for data you do not finish. Credit never expires, data pauses when the balance hits zero, and the same eSIM keeps working across every country we cover. It costs more per gigabyte than a plan, so pick this for light or hard to predict use rather than heavy days.
Add your other stops and we check whether one regional eSIM costs less.
Switzerland belongs to neither the EU nor the EEA, so the EU's roam-like-at-home rules end at its border. The regulator OFCOM says there are no agreements that would let it cap roaming prices, which means an EU phone plan may charge extra here.
SBB offers free Wi-Fi at dozens of stations after a one-time registration. On board, its FreeSurf service only works with a SIM from a participating Swiss provider, and national long-distance trains have no Wi-Fi, so plan on using your own data there.
For air and mountain rescue, call Rega on 1414. Its app passes your coordinates to the operations centre when you call, as long as GPS is on and you have signal. In the canton of Valais, mountain emergencies go to 144 instead.

Amsterdam to Budapest in 14 days: which train to book on each leg, the day trips worth taking, and why one regional eSIM covers all five countries.

Ljubljana to Kotor in 14 days: which legs are trains and which are buses, where your EU plan quietly stops working, and how much data the route really needs.

Germany, Switzerland and Italy in 14 nights. Both legs got much faster since 2021, and the country in the middle is the one your roaming plan misses.

Switzerland isn't covered by EU roaming, so your plan may charge by the day. What carriers charge, how Swiss coverage holds up, and how much data to buy.

One travel eSIM for Europe covers 39 countries: what's included, how much data two weeks takes, and the countries that need extra care.

Which networks you'll ride, how much data a week in France really takes, and how to be online before you leave the airport.
