A QR code that won't scan is almost always a quick fix, not a broken eSIM. Your Zwitchy code is fine — the camera just can't read it yet. Work through the steps below in order and you'll be installed in a couple of minutes.
Scanning fails for a handful of ordinary reasons. Once you know which one you're hitting, the fix is obvious.

Try these one at a time. Most people are sorted by step two or three.
One phone only? You can't scan a code from the screen that's showing it — use manual entry instead, and you'll be set up just as fast.
Every eSIM QR code is just a short block of text hidden behind the image, so you never truly need the camera. When you add an eSIM, choose Enter details manually (iPhone) or Enter it manually (Android), then type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your Zwitchy order. Our step-by-step manual activation guide walks through it, and you can reopen your code any time from your install page.
The wording differs slightly by platform, but the flow is the same: open Settings, add a cellular or mobile plan, then scan or type the code. If you're new to it, our full eSIM setup guide covers both platforms.
| Platform | Where to add your eSIM |
|---|---|
| iPhone | Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM |
| Android | Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM |
On iPhone, if the camera won't lock on, tap Enter Details Manually on the Add Cellular Plan screen. Apple's official guide to set up eSIM on iPhone shows every step.
On Android the menu names vary by brand, but under SIM settings you'll always find an Add eSIM or Download a SIM instead option, with a manual-entry link on the scan screen. Google's guide to using an eSIM on Pixel is a solid reference.
A QR code can only be installed once. If scanning succeeds but you get an error like “unable to add” or “code already used,” the eSIM is probably already on a device.
Don't delete a Zwitchy eSIM to “start over.” Deleting it spends the one-time code and the plan can't be reinstalled — open our connection troubleshooting guide instead if it isn't working.
Installing the eSIM does not start your plan — your data and validity only begin when you switch the eSIM on at your destination. A few settings make sure it connects to the right network and never touches your home carrier.
Not from its own screen — a phone can't photograph its own display. Show the code on another screen, or use manual entry to type it in. The eSIM still installs on the phone you want to use it on.
QR codes are single-use. Once an eSIM is installed, the code is spent — even if you later delete the eSIM. If you think it installed by mistake, check your device's cellular settings before doing anything else.
No. Every code has a text version (an SM-DP+ address and an activation code). Choose manual entry when adding the eSIM and type those in — it's just as reliable as scanning.
No. Installing only loads the profile. Your data allowance and validity begin only when you switch the eSIM on and connect at your destination, so it's safe to install at home on Wi-Fi before you travel.
No. Data Roaming on the Zwitchy eSIM connects you to local partner networks, not your home carrier. Keep your home SIM's roaming off and you'll never see a roaming charge.
