There is also one recent change that catches visitors out more than anything else: the country retired all three of its 3G networks, so a handset that used to quietly fall back to 3G elsewhere in the world will simply find nothing here. You have three ways to get online: roam on your home plan, buy a local prepaid SIM, or install a travel eSIM before you fly. For Australia the eSIM usually wins. The gaps are predictable rather than random, which makes them easy to plan around.
